Originally from coastal North Carolina, she’s lived in New Orleans since 1999 (with a two year stint in Chicago thrown in for good measure). Her dream home is a place with horses, mountains, and a body of water nearby, but at this rate she’ll take anything that has more than two rooms and isn’t within spitting distance of a rowdy neighborhood watering hole. A certified travel junkie, she’s always up for a spot of adventure, especially if it involves medieval architecture and lots of walking.

  1. What a great blog! I hope to be from coastal NC in a few years. My husband and I plan to move to Manteo after he retires. I’m definitely following you and your adventures :).

  2. I think with your interests you are coming to the right place. I mean, where else do you have so much nature, mountains, rivers, medieval castles and all the comfort of city life nearby than in Europe? πŸ™‚ If you decide to come to Croatia you can find all that here, and the castles (the most famous is TrakoΕ‘Δ‡an)… I love the medieval theme that goes on an hour away from where I live every year, the reconstruction and reanacment of defending the city walls. People from all around the world come, and with horses, autentic wardrobe, fire, canons and arrows I feel like I stepped on a set of The Game of Thrones. πŸ˜‰

    • OMG, I’d so love to see that! Part of me is so sad that my best friend lives so far away, but part of me is a little happy, because it means I’m “forced” to go on vacation when I want to visit πŸ˜‰

      • Hehehe… of course. I mean, you DO have to visit. πŸ˜‰ I would gladly show you some photos I have from it, it is called The Knights Tournament, every country participating has their own hand made clothes to distinguish themselves, there was a crow tied to a rope, a carousel for kids made of wood and buckets, endless line of tents (they sleep in them), many stands with hand made jewelry… In the evening they reanact the Defending of the city walls with canons, men and women “fighting” with swords, arrows on fire… It is really something. πŸ™‚ Also, they have a huge tent for visitors with live music and food & beverages to buy.

      • I’ve got to go! That sounds so cool!!!

      • It is πŸ˜€ I was not much into that, but my bf and I are a big fans of Game of Thrones series and I was absolutely delighted with how awesome it was… We went in 2012, it is an anual thing, but I think we have more than one going on here in various places trough a year, we even have Midevial associations…

There, so you can see… Some of them are from were we were, and some from other places in Croatia: https://www.google.hr/search?q=vite%C5%A1ki+turnir&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=irEgU-LuKZSqhQe3zoHgDg&ved=0CCwQsAQ&biw=1164&bih=623
